INSPIRATIONS

This painting has been a source of wonder for me since I was 14 or so.  The artistry required to take the horrors of WWI and produce a haunting and eerie work is nothing short of masterful.

This high alpine lake in Southeastern Oregon has featured prominently in two pieces I wrote. The dark almost black water, is a source of limitless inspiration for me.  As I look at it now I am picturing a dire Lady of the Lake. She reaches out from icy cold water to hand a possessed sword to Mordred, so he can kill King Arthur.

I am always trying to find time to get further into my collection of scientific literature, medieval epics, and ancient histories written in that time.  Currently I am immersed with Maanhaar, The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki, and The Capture of Constantinople.

Muses

Most of my muses are people I knew.  The heroine in my first novel is named after a girl I met in middle school.  When she transferred to the highschool I attended as a senior I decided to use her beauty and sweet, quiet nature in my writing.

An old friend I rarely see anymore is usually the man I picture for a male lead, whether heroic, twisted, or ordinary, it is his eyes I write through.

He is the man in the flash fiction I linked to the left.
